Based on the number of in-demand jobs in Virginia and the network of Virginia Ready Business Partners, Virginia Ready has decided to concentrate on creating career minded Scholars with a focus on supporting courses that lead to a career pathway with economic mobility. This starts with launching a new application process for incoming Scholars on July 1, 2023. Please see below for important information to start or continue your journey as a Scholar.
Important Notice for all CDL Applicants: Effective June 1, 2023: Virginia Ready will no longer accept any Commercial Driver License (CDL) Applicant who is applying for Virginia Ready on/after June 1, 2023 (no matter the start date of the course). This means your application will be withdrawn from the Scholar Portal and you will not be able to be a Scholar.
Important Notice for all Applicants: Effective June 15, 2023 - June 30, 2023: Virginia Ready’s Scholar Application system will be unavailable. Applicants will not be able to make an account or create a Scholar Application during this time. Applications will not be retroactively accepted for any Scholar who misses the 5 calendar day deadline while the system is unavailable.
Scholars who were already approved or asked to resubmit their application will be able to login and complete the necessary steps to remain eligible for the Credential Achievement Award.
Effective June 1, 2023 the following changes will occur:
1. Virginia Ready revised the list of approved credential training programs. The list of revised courses can be found here. The revised course list impacts all course and/or course date changes.
2. Applicants who apply on/ after June 1, 2023 and have a start date on/after July 1, 2023 will be withdrawn if they are applying for a course that isn't on the revised course list.
Course and/or Course Date Changes
ALL Scholars can no longer switch their course they applied for on their Scholar Application. Virginia Ready can only provide you with the $1000 Credential Achievement Award for the course you originally applied for in the Scholar Portal. The only exception considered is if the college changed the course dates.
Note: If your course dates change, then you must email the Virginia Ready team at info@virginiaready.org with an explanation and your new Transaction Receipt or Community College Class Registration Email prior to or by the 5th calendar day of the new course (the first day of class = day 1)
If Virginia Ready is not notified of this change by the deadline, then your original application will be withdrawn and you will be ineligible for the $1000 Credential Achievement Award.
If the new course date is July 1, 2023 or later, you will be directed to apply in the new Scholar Portal and your current application will be withdrawn. For a list of courses in the new Scholar Portal click here.

How about getting retrained in a rigorous 6 to 12 week credential program for an in-demand job in a high-growth sector? If you are willing to take the challenge, you could get a new job in technology, healthcare or skilled trades. All eligible applicants will receive a one-time $1,000 Credential Achievement Award upon completion of their course as well as access to skill-based workshops and career resources.
Before you start your Virginia Ready Scholar Application you will need to have your community college class registration email in order to complete your application and apply. You will need to upload it to your eligibility questionnaire. This email states your class name, start date, and end date.
Virginia Ready Eligibility Requirements
You are enrolled in a Virginia Ready supported FastForward course
You are applying up prior to or within the 5 calendar days of your class starting (1st calendar day is the first day of class. You must submit your Virginia Ready Scholar Application (by clicking "Apply Now")prior to your class starting or within the first 5 calendar days (NOT class meeting days) of your class starting to be eligible for Virginia Ready.)
You are domiciled in Virginia
You are looking to increase your skill set by earning a credential for an in demand job in a growth sector
Please Note: You may only receive the $1000 Credential Achievement Award once for the course you have submitted your Scholar Application for as final. You may not take another Virginia Ready-supported course and receive another $1000.
Effective April 11 2023: In order to participate in Virginia Ready, a potential Virginia Ready Scholar must be at least 18 years old by the time they earn their credential.
Process
1. Make Account
Click on the "Make Account” link and create a username and password.
2. Login
Log into your account with your email and password.
3. Create a Virginia Ready Scholar Application
Create a Virginia Ready Scholar Application and answer the eligibility questionnaire. You will need to upload a copy of your class registration email to complete the eligibility form. Once your eligibility is accepted, please fill out the remaining fields.
4. Submit
Once you have completed all 5 tabs of your application, click “Apply Now” to submit your Virginia Ready Scholar Application for review. This step must be completed before your course begins OR no later than 5 days after your course’s start date (Day 1 = first day of classes). At any time, you can download and print your application by clicking on the icon in the Application Summary section.
5. Check Your Email
Please allow the Virginia Ready review team time to review your application. You will need to monitor your email for updates regarding your application status.
